Brouwerij Duvel Moortgat Tripel Hop 2016 (9.5%)

Duvel Triple Hop 2016Since 2008, Duvel have been releasing a limited edition Tripel Hop version of their beer, each time with a different third hop.
This year it’s the American experimental HBC 291, and it’s the best version so far.
I decided to drink a regular Duvel before opening this beer so as to set my tastebuds up in readiness.
And I’m glad that I did.
It really made a difference, making the third hop absolutely jump out of the new beer.
You find all the usual Duvel things here, the sweet caramel and shortcake malts, the alcohol warmth and the earthy hedgerow of the original hop bill.
But then the HBC291 leaps out pin sharp and bright as day, giving you a herbal tinged tropical fruit salad full of papaya and grapefruit, lime zest and mango.
This year’s Triple Hop is very good indeed.
Duvel are promising a six pack that compiles a bottle each of all the Triple Hop beers so far and I for one can’t wait to try them all side by side.
