Brewed in collaboration with the wonderful Melissa Cole, Saisonier gives me yet another reason to say that St Austell are one of my favourite of the big breweries.
Where the Marstons’ Saison tasted more like Pedigree than anything resembling a farmhouse ale, this beer has everything you want to find in this beer style.
A lovely earthy yeast warmth bubbles away in the background, while the sweet caramel brioche, honey and white pepper of the malts and the sharp citrus nettle sting of the hops are joined by the snap of cinnamon and fiery root ginger, and the zing of lemon and lime zest.
Well done St. Austell, this is very good indeed.
But then Melissa’s had a hand in it, so I’d expect nothing less.
