I’m not sure why but I kind of always want Flying Dog to be bad.
But they never are.
And this beer in particular is absolutely brilliant.
A Red Ale (for want of a better term) brewed with Chipotle peppers, chicory root and toasted American Oak, on taking a swig you find a big brown sugar sweet toffee biscuit malt, a warm earthy fug from the yeast and a hearty hit of sharp green herbal hops.
But what’s important is that all this is served up in a coarse woody jacket of oak and coffee tinged chicory that’s backed by a deep round and really rather delicious chilli heat.
And so, however much I might want Flying Dog to be bad, they keep on being good.
Really good in fact.
