The Ilkley Brewery Hanging Stone (5%)

Hanging StoneIlkley’s Oatmeal Stout is pretty good, though it’s slightly too thin.
It pours a deep purple brown with a little cappuccino head and smells of bitter chocolate and black coffee.
The malting is as heavy as you’d want and expect, all burned toast crusts, honey, treacle and freshly brewed coffee, and there’s a good slash of bitterness from the hops, all red and crunchy and autumnal.
And all of that is very good, but in the finish the beer goes a little bit thin and watery where, given that it’s brewed with oatmeal which usually adds body, it all becomes a little bit weak and weedy.
That said, I’d happily drink it again.
