Every brewery has a bad day and for me, this is Cloudwater’s.
You see, it’s just too light, too wimpy, too insubstantial.
It pours a pale gold with a nice enough fluffy head, but the smell is as much water as it is balsa wood and lemonade.
And when you take a swig your initial thought is, “ooh, this is refreshing.”
But that’s because the main flavour is water, the malts apologetically giving you the merest hint of caramel and biscuit and the hops nothing more than the lightest swipe of lemon and pithy hedgerow.
Cloudwater call it “A light quaffing ale”, but it’s far too light for my liking.
