Brewed in collaboration with Anspach & Hobday, this is a Dark Cream Ale that I was hoping would be fabulous, but it isn’t.
That said, it’s not bad, not bad at all, but there’s an odd cheesy hit at the back of the aroma, it’s all a bit like dirty teenage socks after the initial toffee sweetness.
Taking a swig you find lots of treacle and brown bread, chocolate and praline, it’s all sweet and rich and lovely, and there’s a decent crunchy dried herb hopping that brings a slap of mixed herbs, some sherbet lemons and a swish of pithy nettle leaves.
All this and a soft and creamy feeling on your tongue as you head towards the warm boozy candy floss finish.
But that cheesy smell is all a bit odd.
