Imagine, if you will, a liquorice heavy Stout with a nice earthy warmth in the background.
Got it?
That’s this beer.
It pours a deep purple brown and smells of plums and coffee, and when you take a swig you find a big round and chewy liquorice root, coffee and wholemeal toast, toffee popcorn and honey malt.
And then there’s a decent red autumnal crunchy leaf snap from the hops, they’re brittle and pithy and spiked with zesty lemon freshness.
All this and a good spiced earthy warmth from the Saison yeast that adds a richness to the sticky treacle finish.
Very good.
