This chilli infused dark ale is rather good, though it could do with just a little more fizz for my liking.
Pouring a deep Ruby red, the smell is treacle and plums and taking a swig you find a big round soft fruit body full of those same plums that you smelled as you poured, along with toffee popcorn, treacle tart and waffles.
There’s a decent hedgerow hopping that’s dry and pithy, sharp and herbal, and has a good aniseed hit at the edges.
All this gives way to a chilli heat that catches at the back of your throat in a rather delightful way, slowly building the spicy paprika heat as you work your way down the glass, leaving you with a prickly warmth in the caramel sweet finish.
Very nice indeed.
