Blue Point Brewery Blueberry Ale (4.5%)

blueberry-ale-1This is marvellously disappointing.
A pale ale with natural flavour added, not only does the beer have an aroma that sits weirdly halfway between blueberry and Stilton cheese, but there’s a distinctly unpleasant blue cheese mouldiness humming about in the background of the flavours too.
Sure the beer sits a nice pale gold in my glass, its little fluffy head popping and fizzing, but the cheesiness builds as you drink, distracting from the shortbread and honey malts and the herbal snap of the hops.
There is a blueberry aftertaste that is really rather nice, but this cheesy nastiness spoils the beer for me.
