I don’t know why I should be surprised at a home brewer making a Hefeweizen, especially when it’s BrewChap, but I was surprised.
It seems like an odd thing to make at home, though I have no reason to think that at all.
What The Thing is is a very good Hefeweizen that pours a cloudy gold with a big frothy head and smells of bananas and toffee and bread dough.
The wheaty malts give you a soft creamy vanilla and porridge body, some caramel and honey brioche, and just a little Weetabix, and the hops are sharp and green and lightly herbal, tinged with lemon rind and a snappy sapling wood pithiness.
And in the background the yeast adds a warm spicy banana and dough hum to the crisp refreshing finish.
Excellent.
