Brewed near the east coast of Italy, this is Opper Bacco’s take on a Belgian Strong Ale, and what’s more it’s not too shabby.
Pouring a deep mahogany, the smell is liquorice, plums and treacle.
There’s a big treacle tart presence in the flavour of the beer too, it’s round and sticky no chewy, and around it you find prunes and plums, a rich brandy warmth, apple juice and honey.
All very sticky, all very sweet.
And it would et too sweet, if it weren’t for the crunchy autumnal leaf litter of the hops adding a sharp crisp bitterness.
The only thing that cold make this beer better is a little more life, a little more fizz as this bottle is just a touch flat.
