This is my first experience of Pope’s Yard and based on this I’d be very interested in trying some more.
What we have here is a Vanilla Milk Stout that pours an impenetrable black with a little cappuccino head and smells of custard and honey.
The malts are the champions here, giving you massive hits of chocolate and coffee, treacle tart, honey and biscuits that are all made richer by the addition of Madagascan vanilla and smoothed out with lactose.
The hopping is light and crunchy, brittle hazel leaves and hedgerow greenery adding a much needed dry pithiness to the beer as you head towards the sticky custard tart finish.
