The latest in de rigueur hip Brewing appears to be Stout made with cold brewed coffee, and here’s my favourite example so far.
Pouring an inky black with a little cappuccino head, Two Roads’ Espressway smells of fresh coffee and prune juice.
The malts are the boss here, controlling the beer with lots of treacle tart, burned wholemeal toast and runny honey, while the hops provide a much needed bitter slash of herbal greenery.
The coffee percolates away underneath, bubbling to the surface with a lovely smoky woodiness so strong it dilates your pupils, keeping you awake well after you’ve taken your last swig and leaving you feeling rather like Too Much Coffee Man.
