My bottle of this was a bit feisty to pour resulting in an enormous billowing head of cappuccino froth, but the smell was rich and inviting, all chocolate coated raisins and a hit of earthy yeast.
The body of the beer is thick and rich, full of treacle tart, black coffee, honey and lots of dark chocolate, it feels far richer than it’s ABV would suggest.
And it’s the malting that is the star here, though the hops add a much needed flower border and hedgerow bitterness to the sticky molasses of the finish.
Very good.
