Twisted Barrel Ale Soup Dragon (5.8%)

This Lime and Chipotle Saison is a thing of loveliness, pouring a bright gold with a big frothy head, it smells of zingy citrus fruit and bread dough.
I was expecting the chilli to be a lot more prominent than it is, but I’m very happy that it sits in the background adding a gently prickling smoked woody heat to the edges of the beer.
The fresh lime snaps and sparkles with life, bringing a zesty zip as you drink, complementing the hedgerow greenery and lemon curd of the hops, while the malting and yeast work together to create a solid meaty body of salted caramel, waffles and honey, a light mushroom fug and lots of soft spices.
This would be a perfect sunny afternoon drink, but unfortunately it’s cold and damp and wintery as I write.
