This is the sister brew to Hart’s Opal wheat beer that I raved about a year or two ago and it’s equally as good.
Pouring a deep mahogany with a proper billowing head, the aroma is lightly spiced honey and bread dough, and then taking a swig you find a great big bitter chocolate and cinder toffee malt body, a little smokiness and a splash of coffee before the hops give you a fresh garden herb kick, lemon zest and a touch of spiced orange marmalade.
All this makes for a big satisfying beer that’s driven by a warm booziness leading you into a snappy bitter finish.
