This cherrywood smoked ESB has been brewed in collaboration with Torrside Brewing and it’s really rather good.
In essence this is a straightforward ESB, the traditional yeast strain and Bramling Cross hops working together to create a soft round peach and apricot fruitiness and a good hit of aniseed tinged green garden foliage, and there’s also a splash of apple juice and a spoonful of brown sugar.
But the malts have been smoked over cherry wood and this gives the beer a warm woody fireside aroma and a deep, rich and rather meaty Rauchbier background hum.
Very good indeed.
