Roosters’ Black Coffee IPA is rather good, though doesn’t have anywhere near as much of a coffee flavour as you might expect.
In fact the coffee, a Rainforest Alliance Kenyan variety sourced from Taylor’s Of Harrogate, provides little more than a subtle woody warmth and a hint of liquorice right at the back of the beer.
But that’s really not a problem as the malting is deep and rich with treacle tart, fudge brownies and honey, and the hops give you a sharp slap of nettles and lemon zest, mango, grapefruit and steely herbal leaves, all of which makes for a beer with a rich dark body and a zippy bitter sherbet finish.
