This is a Brown Ale.
A very good Brown Ale.
However, this is a Brown Ale brewed with doughnuts in the mash tun, though you’d never guess if you hadn’t been told.
And even after being told I can’t find them.
So ignore the doughnut thing, it’s a bit of a red herring, and just enjoy the nutty, treacle tart and tamarind joy of a well made Brown Ale.
There’s a brown sugar and honey, waffle and wholemeal bread malt, lots of roasted hazelnuts, and the snap of red leaf litter and orange marmalade from the hops.
The aroma is all rum and raisin chocolate and the finish has a good bitter nettle tea slap.
But doughnuts?
Maybe it’s because, according to the label, they only used a dozen.
