So it turns out that an Imperial Red Ale, at least in this case, is another name for a Barley Wine, and I’m not a big Barley Wine fan.
I find it far too sweet for my taste, and this is very sweet indeed.
Sure, there’s some hoppy bitterness, but it’s an aside to the head swimmingly sugary syrup, Barley Sugar sweets and toffee stickiness of the malting.
There’s an alcohol warmth that makes all this sweetness even heavier, and the finish is gluey with Demerara sugar.
Nope, I don’t like this much.
