Aged in Bourbon barrels for a year or so, Sheltered Spirit is an Imperial Porter brewed with Tamarind and Chilli.
It’s rather good as well, though I’m struggling to find any chilli heat.
There’s lots of tamarind mind you, it’s meaty and rich, sweet and dark and fruity.
The malts are thick with chocolate, black coffee, honey and treacle tart, an there’s even some plum and prune boozy Port warmth, red wine tannin dryness, and a slap of bitter herbal hops.
Sheltered Spirit is a very good beer that could be made great by being a little more fizzy.
