I’m a bit cross because I opened this bottle thinking I’d written about it already and therefore I could just drink it without having to think.
And then I find I’ve got it all wrong and I’ve written about Safe Word and not Safe Stout, and go be honest, on a Saturday evening after a whole bunch of booze, I cold do without trying to string any meaningful sentences together.
I’m not altogether sure what a Chokeberry is, but it gives a red cherry richness to the aroma of this beer and adds a fleshy fruitiness, a Rosehip edge to the treacle tart and bran flake malt, making the beer feel round and fruity and sharp while the hops provide some sticky orange marmalade sweetness and a big hit of pithy green bracken.
And right in the finish you find bitter chocolate and, to be honest, I fell asleep writing this and woke up on the sofa in the middle of the night not sure who or where I was.
