The most surprising thing about this beer is that it feels for all the world like it’s full of lactose, but according to the ingredients there is no lactose involved.
So I am going to trust the ingredients and tell you that this is a vanilla rich, coffee steeped, treacle tart of a beer.
A Stout packed with pecan pie and honey roast hazelnut chocolate goodness.
A big boozy beer that is heavy with whisky, a little woody earthy oak from the barrel ageing and lots of lovely digestive biscuit and rum baba warmth.
The hops – Bramling Cross if you were wondering – add a hint of liquorice and some pithy green leafy freshness, but really this is a beer that is all about its rich alcoholic desert flavours and all the better for it.
Oh, and if it was any thicker, I’d be eating it with a spoon.
